From time to time I’d like to bring you a software review about a piece of software that I personally use. This time I’m going to review the application Yummy FTP from Yummy Software.
As a web developer, I use and need an FTP application every day in order for me to do my job. Coming from the PC where I used an FTP program called FileZilla, which was a free open source project, I found that the Mac OS X version of FileZilla wasn’t up to my standards. So I went on a search of the many Mac OS X available FTP clients on the market today such as Fetch, Transmit, and Cyberduck.
After trying each of them, I stumbled across Yummy FTP from a forum post and decided to give it a try. I was impressed from the start. Coming from the PC world for most of my career, I was immediately at home with the dual pane view of Yummy FTP (yes you can switch to the single window view), even though my long time Mac friend Tom still gives me a hard time to this day about how Yummy FTP looks….looks aside, the application has been rock solid. Check out the full feature list over at Yummy Software.
In my testing almost all of the other FTP clients had uploading/downloading issues of some kind, and most did a bad job of error recovery for failed transfers. Yummy FTP however handled all of the tests I threw at it perfectly. It’s performance is one area where this app shines.
Another aspect of any application, especially when you have to purchase it, is the support behind it. The main person behind Yummy FTP is a developer name Jason. If I had an issue or problem, Jason was extremely fast to respond, even once responding while he was out of the country on vacation! If I uncovered a bug he was always quick to investigate and even at times release a beta version with a fix.
I highly recommend Yummy FTP if you need a full featured, reliable and stable FTP application for the Mac.
Check it out over at Yummy Software. Yummy FTP is $25 for a single user license. A free 30-day trial is available.
